Every Bulldog has its day, MANILA, Philippines. The National University Lady Bulldogs proved it on Tuesday night when they won the Season 84 UAAP women’s volleyball championship, ending a 65-year title drought.
With unrivaled confidence and skill. NU defeated La Salle by the scores of 25-15, 25-15. And 25-22 to earn its 16th victory in a row and demonstrate its superiority over the competition.
The Lady Bulldogs, who comprise the majority of the high school team at the school. Lost only five sets in total—none to the Lady Spikers—to provide NU, which has been mired in mediocrity for decades, a championship pedigree.
La Salle, an 11-time winner, utterly lost the best-of-three series. The best it could muster was a third-inning ace by reliever Matet Espina, who gave it a 20-17 lead. La Salle’s mistakes allowed NU to answer with a dizzying 7-0 rally.
Mhicaela Belen put on a performance deserving of the Rookie-MVP award. Scoring 10 points in the first set as the Lady Bulldogs came back from a 6-10 hole to win the set easily.
Belen was supported in her attacks by Ivy Lacsina and Alyssa Solomon as NU defeated La Salle in that area, 17-7, to set the tone for the game, which was seen by 12,621 fans at the Mall of Asia Arena.
Cess Robles, The MVP of the Finals.
The following frame saw NU rocket to a double-digit lead. The final score being 18-8 because La Salle failed to make the necessary correction. The Lady Spikers could only generate seven spikes in response to 18 attacks from the Lady Bulldogs.
